Pain Management

Arthritis

For patients suffering from arthritis, whether it is arthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder, hand or back, we aim to treat the body as a whole, and not just focus on treating the obvious symptoms. Because the majority of our arthritis patients suffer from rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis, which are autoimmune disorders, our treatments not only focus on controlling the painful symptoms of arthritis, but also on balancing the immune system.

Migraines

A person suffering from migraines may experience symptoms such as: stress, anxiety, depression, restlessness, irritability, fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, blurred vision, tinnitus, nausea, thirst, constipation, poor appetite, cold sweat, menstrual cramps, neck pain and more. These conditions are generally caused by the imbalance of the various vital body systems or as the practitioners of traditional Chinese Medicine call a ‘stagnation of qi on certain meridians’.

Acupuncture can offer powerful relief without the side effects that prescription and over-the-counter drugs can cause.

Dr. Gong treats the specific symptoms that are unique to each individual, customizing programs to restore balance in the vital systems and to remove the stagnation of qi.  Your diagnosis and number of treatments will depend on numerous variables:

  • Is the headache behind your eyes and temples or is it located toward the top of your head?
  • When do your headaches occur?
  • Does a cold compress or dark room alleviate some of the pain?
  • Is the pain sharp and piercing or dull and throbbing?

Some symptoms are relieved after the first treatment, while more severe or chronic ailments often require multiple treatments.

Digestive Discomfort and Conditions

If you are experiencing indigestion, irritable bowels, constipation, bloating or pain (in the stomach or intestines), acupuncture can be a tremendous resource for feeling better now and maintaining those improvements over the long term.

Acupuncture improves the body functions of digestion, absorption and metabolism and can also reduce ulcers and neutralize excessive stomach acid.  Dr. Gong will customize a treatment program with maximum effectiveness for your symptoms.

Back Pain

Chinese medicine and acupuncture theorize that there are underlying imbalances in the body which lead to chronic low back pain. Dr. Gong tailors treatment to what is going on with your back.

Allergies

Allergies are the body’s immune system is overreacting in an effort to protect itself from something in the air. The body mistakes that substance for something so toxic that it requires a radical (and uncomfortable) response.  Unfortunately, Western medicine doesn’t have a very effective way of providing relief.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs work to balance the body and strengthen the immune system to the point where it doesn’t feel the need to overreact. From there, the body can better differentiate what’s really a toxin and what the body can actually handle (pollen, etc.)

Once the body is in balance and the immune system is strong, allergies can vanish not just for the season, but forever.

Nose / Sinus / Head Congestion

Dr. Gong uses acupuncture to help stimulate the body and reduce the pathogens causing sinus pain and congestion. Acupuncture provides relief, improves circulation and clears blockages all around the eyes and nose.

Cupping stimulates the lymphatic flow and can shorten the length of a cold. Rather than a week or more of lingering sickness, often a patient experiences one sick day and then is done and better.
